This would certainly work better with a higher number of active members, but I thought a Book of the Month would be a good idea for the forum. Something where we'd decide on a book, each read it, and then discuss it. Each person can be as involved as he wants to be. Doing it a month at a time would ensure that those who are slow readers have plenty of time to finish the book, as well as allowing those who start the reading late plenty of time to get in before the discussion is over.

Thoughts? Book suggestions?

I think it's a great idea. Why don't you pick something WNH? It was your idea.

If enough people are interested, perhaps we can start with September?

I don't want to pick the book outright, but I'll throw out a few suggestions. Seems it'd work best if there was some kind of majority vote, or at least a decent amount of interest shown in a particular book. There are a number of relative classics that I've been meaning to get around to reading but just haven't. It's understandable if people don't want to re-read books they've already read (multiple times, even), but any thoughts on the following?

William Faulkner - The Sound and the Fury

F. Scott Fitzgerald - This Side of Paradise

Joseph Heller - Catch-22

Ernest Hemingway - A Farewell to Arms

Ernest Hemingway - For Whom the Bell Tolls

Walker Percy - The Moviegoer

J.D. Salinger - The Catcher in the Rye

I think we should let wnh choose this first one. After the first book we could go down the member list and let each man choose the book when his name is comes up.

Thoughts on this?

Tell you what. The next couple of months are going to be awfully busy for me, so for September let's do Catcher in the Rye. I've read it once, as I'm sure most of you have, but it's something I'd like to get into again, and it's something that I know I can navigate pretty easily.

How's everyone feel about Sep. 15th as a discussion start date? Ought to give everyone enough time to read through it.

For any new members who are interested, it's not too late to get in on this.

This book can easily be read in one day.
