I am reading through Patrick O'Brian's Aubry/Maturin series for the second time. 20 Volumes. I started on (coincidentally) St Patrick's day, and am halfway through the 13th book. The series is just as good or better the second time around.

I like the Aubrey books, and actually have an Honorary Aubrey dinner every spring at my club in lower Manhattan.
But for fun, Flashman is better in my opinion.
O'Brian always talks about food and only hints at sex, where Fraser is the complete opposite! LOL. I guess if you're in for a penny, you're in for a pound.
Another good series are the books by Malison focusing on Napoleonic cavalry.
Interesting about the dinners. When you say honorary, are they in honor of Aubry, or do you honor some guest?
I have read other books by Fraser, but never a Flashman novel. I think it's because the anti-hero rarely appeals to me. Naval Wife watches
House, but I can't get over the fact that nobody punches him in the nose, much less works for him. Do those people have no pride? And while I find
Mad Men visually stunning, I quit watching after a couple of episodes because there were absolutely zero sympathetic characters. Everyone I saw was an asshole in one way or another. I get no pleasure dedicating my time to assholes, fictional or real. But maybe one day I'll give Flashman a whirl.
I will look into the Malison series (Are you sure of the spelling? Amazon turned up nothing but a paper on capacitors, etc). Thanks. I've read the
Sharps books, and found them fun, but it a bit light.
