I made a mix disc of jump blues for driving purposes: Louis Jordan, Joe Turner, and the immortal Wynonie Harris.

Driving music is different than sit in the chair music, I find.

A really good driving music band is Stereolab. Not the faux-jazzy stuff that sounds like the soundtrack to a Jean Rollin flick about lesbian vampires in the land of the mysterious green goo, but the droning Velvet-y stuff.

And speaking of droning Velvet-y, the Feelies have a new one out. That's two in what, six years? A frantically productive period for this group.

I love just about everything Stereolab and was fortunate to have interviewed Laetitia Sadier for a newspaper story I wrote, geez, must be about 17 years ago.

If you like that double LP, I recommend "Jazz at Oberlin" by the Brubeck Quartet. I believe it's one of the first in Brubeck's "college" series, and it's become a classic.

Thanks for the recommendation! That's going on my short list

Way back around 1983 I was in college in Ohio. I bought this record at a tag sale, solely on the strength of the cover.

I lost it of course.

But now thanks to the magic of the internet, the full majesty of Emil Hahn is mine once again.

2018 --

Discovered the Greenhornes.

Good stuff from Parquet Courts.

Bought the reissue of the Grateful Dead's "Anthem of the Sun," a terrific record in either iteration and an outlier in their studio work.

Found a Captain Beefheart anthology that is about all I need from that artist.

Used Pandora to find new stuff -- new to me, anyway. Then created Amazon playlists and had Alexa play them for me. I have the larger Echo device and the sound is surprisingly good. Sometimes it gets a little overloaded but solid for the most part.

Spent a fair bit of time listening to jump blues.
