“And I said, ‘Obie, I can understand you wanting my wallet so I don’t have any money to spend in the cell, but what do you want my belt for?’

And he said, ‘Kid, we don’t want any hangings.’

I Said, ‘Obie, did you think I was going to hang myself for littering?’

Obie said he was making sure, and friends Obie was, cause he took out the toilet seat so I couldn’t hit myself over the head and drown, and he took out the toilet paper so I couldn’t bend the bars, roll out the - roll the toilet paper out the window, slide down the roll, and have an escape. Obie was making sure, and it was about four or five hours later that Alice (remember Alice? This is a song about Alice).

Alice came by and with a few nasty words to Obie on the side, bailed us out of jail, and we went back to the church, had a another Thanksgiving dinner that couldn’t be beat, and didn’t get up until the next morning, when we all had to go to court.”

— Arlo Guthrie

Just pre-ordered the new Sufjan Stevens album Carrie and Lowell and bought me and my girlfriend tickets to go see him mid-April.
The couple tracks he's released seem pretty great upon the first few listens. I found I Should Have Known Better to be especially moving.

Here's an interesting interview with Sufjan where he delves into his relationship with his mother and stepfather, Carrie and Lowell. http://pitchfork.com/features/interview ... n-stevens/

I bought the compilation set and liked it so much I bought Take It From the Man and Satanic Majesties and a couple of others so now I have all the BJM anyone could ever want

If I was a radio DJ I'd do a noisy set of:

Velvet Underground — I Heard Her Call My Name
Crime — Hotwire My Heart
BJM — Not If You Were the Last Dandy on Earth

A band called The Green Pajamas that's been around for a while, apparently. They've got a way with a riff and a hook.

That's a solid list.

I like the Parquet Courts (aka Parkay Quarts) a lot

Brubeck on Campus - The Dave Brubeck Quartet

Found this one at an antique store in Fernandina Beach, FL last summer. Easily one of my favorite albums.

^ I own an original pressing of "Jazz Goes to College" and it's a favorite. Desmond's playing on "Balcony Rock" is exquisite.

If you like that double LP, I recommend "Jazz at Oberlin" by the Brubeck Quartet. I believe it's one of the first in Brubeck's "college" series, and it's become a classic.
