In 1960 or 1961, the owner of the College Ivy Shop, at which I worked, ordered a white 3 roll 2 Ivy Blazer for me! I loved it and wore it with my fraternity crest emblazoned on the breast pocket. Here's a picture of the early sixties version:

Under circumstances long forgotten, this blazer was lost, or stolen, or misplaced. Regardless, I graduated from college without it... and regretted having to stop the hunt to recover it! As you can see, it had shoulders that sloped like a Black Diamond Ski trail!

Fifty some years later, I asked Tony Panico – the alterations tailor at J. Press New Haven – if he could create another White Blazer for me. He said yes... To assist Tony, I showed him a picture of my 1960s version. Here is the result of his work:

Over the years, the Kappa Sigma crest has changed slightly, while the White Flannel jackets look remarkably similar!

I love 'em both! I hope you like them, too.

Wonderful, Billax.

I am confident in saying that Tony took on that commission as his pleasure and privilege.

The critical difference being that while you could fold Blue Boy into an origami figure with one hand and not break a sweat, Blue Boy could certainly school all of us on the proper use of frilly stuff.

I don't like Blue Boy's expression either. I bet Red Boy and Brown Boy kick his frills at recess.

I forgot to mention that I bought a bunch of personalized Maker's tags with Tony's name on them. One for the Blazer and the rest for Tony in hopes he would have many more commissions!

Here is the picture of the inside of the jacket, showing logo and tag, featuring a small spool of thread and a needle to the left of his name tag.

I'm wearing a navy polo, Duluth space fabric fishing pants, boat shoes and an irritated expression.

Why am I irritated? Because I have to pay attention to this:

This is the Planning and Zoning Commission in "action."

I'm on a tight deadline so I couldn't just make a call this morning and get the dates of the public hearing. No, I had to sit through two and a half hours of blabbity blah, with a mediocre signal-to-noise ratio.

But hey -- only six more years before I'm eligible for Medicare

That picture perfectly captures the boredom. Even the woman on the far right with her hand on her head has that get me out of here expression. Decades ago when I worked in the media, meetings just like this were the worst assignments. Nobody wanted to go. I see nothing has changed, it’s all blah blah blah and yet, nothing gets done.

The public hearing will be more lively. (So would watching bacteria grow in a petri dish.)

The commission is trying to encourage the creation of affordable housing. A sizable number of people aren't going to like it, and they will struggle to find ways to oppose it without appearing to.
