If you're still in the hunt NK, this one just came up on my feed and the price isn't terrible/you could make an offer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREEN-MACHINE-G ... 2518.l4276

I don't know if I'm just getting lucky or the late winter/transitional season is the time of year to jump on this stuff?

Another summer sport coat coming my way:

I've got some old Brook poplin suits to dig out and sell. I always post stuff here first. Give me a couple of weeks, I want to see if there is any hope of them fitting once I drop another 10 pounds or so.

I thrifted these four shirts on a lunch break 4 months ago, and left them in their Goodwill bag until the other day. Partly because they seemed Spring/Summer, and also because I own too many shirts. Please excuse the wrinkles, they recently finished air drying. I noticed in the store that the Andover Shop shirts are monogrammed on the wrist, which doesn't bother me because if I'm not wearing a coat or jacket, my sleeves are rolled. All three are same size and monogrammed, except I just noticed now that two of three initials match, and one has a different middle initial. In thrifting it's fairly common to find items that must have been donated by the same person, but what if I somehow managed to find shirts donated by a set of identical twins?

I have two new Tenkara rods coming. I think teaching kids with these fixed-line rods is going to be the next big thing

In clothing news, because I've lost 20 pounds, lots of stuff fits again and therefore seems new

Update on the UNIQLO jacket - here's a shot after the shortening job to the body and sleeves. Also, swapped the buttons out for smoke mother of pearl (thanks for the suggestion gamma).

^ Nicely done, LeeLo. That will be a nice summer jacket. And real nice pickup on that LLB shirt!

Yesterday, on a whim, I stopped at an estate sale in my neighborhood and hit the MOTHER LOAD of Trad. This guy had solid taste in clothing...and just happened to be my size.

There was a giant laundry basket with several hundred ties dumped in haphazardly. I could've spent hours combing through it, but here's what I pulled out:

Image

(L-R) Rivetz of Boston sailboats for Mark, Fore & Strike, BB makers, silk foulard made in England for a local haberdashery, English repp for a long-gone local haberdashery, unlined silk repp from same haberdashery, and a cool woven silk emblematic.

Punch Out Early Tomorrow's Saturday

Image

Campbell of Argyll wool scarf by James Pringle of Scotland.

Image

A natural shoulder 3/2 sack with hook vent from Kilgore & Hurd, one of several departed downtown Detroit clothiers. Once the sleeves are let out a bit, this one will be ready to roll.

Image

Ralph Lauren Polo Indian madras

Image

MacCluer patchwork Indian madras shirt. I'd never heard of this brand until acquiring this shirt but have since read real nice things about them.

Image

Viyella cotton/wool blend shirt

Image

Two Turnbull & Asser shirts

Willis & Geiger Adventurer "Diaplex" parka

And the best find, a vintage BB '346' Glen Plaid sack suit that will need little alteration.

I also saw a vintage Redwood & Ross 3/2 navy poplin 'wash & wear' suit, but it was stained too badly, darn it.

The lesson for those who like to thrift is to check out estate sales. You never know what you'll find.

Damn! Gamma, you get my vote for haul of the year :D

Weren't you just talking about wanting to find a glen plaid sack suit? Talk about the stars aligning.

Thanks, fellas. LeeLo, I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted the POW suit after expressing a desire for one shortly ago. The thrift Gods were on my side.
