I've noticed a small explosion of shoe companies lately, offering what appear to be well-made shoes and boots for a price considerably lower than the usual suspects -- Alden, Allen Edmonds, etc.

Today's entry is the Adelante Shoe Co. Here is their Havana boot.

Here is something similar from the Thursday Boot Co. (They like old-timey logos with abbreviations like "Co.")

Here is Grant Stone's more expensive version:

I think Reuben can speak to Grant Stone. Does anyone else have personal experience with any of these?

I notice they are all very big on boots.

I don't need any more shoes, that's for sure. And I certainly don't need any more boots -- the ones I have get only cursory wearings, mostly so I can justify their existence.

Still...can't say I haven't been tempted.

I don't know much about those companies, but I might consider a pair of Thursday Diplomats like this:

At the time, a few years ago, I never found them to be available. Now it looks like they only do them with a white wedge (Christy-type) sole, which I do not want. Or am I missing the option of Dainites?

Did any of you guys get in on this "Alden Indy" copy?

I don't like that white sole either. Looks like it would be slippery. Dainite or Vibram mini-lug for me.

Here's another one

This is the Red Wing Heritage version of that style, which I tried on recently, but forgot to bring my favorite insole to get it right, so will try again. They fit a little differently than my other Red Wings.

These guys from Ariat are a spectacular deal, Made-in-America and bison suede for under $200:

Oh I like those a lot...but would they get worn? Probably not much.

I have a similar boot, the Frye Arkansas. Not sure if they've been discontinued or not.

I actually wear mine a ton, often with jeans but sometimes khakis too. They're a perfect shade of really dirty tan, not quite brown that's light enough for stone but dark enough for british khaki.

Yeah but you're young and hip. I'm old and crusty. Fossilized.

If I got a second pair of red wings that's exactly what I would get! Something about the white christy soles you usually see on that style isn't right to my eye, but like that they're just perfect

Not that I'm in the market though, I just got a pair of Danners of eBay

I have a pair of Red Wing Beckmans in "black cherry" that I find very versatile.
