I just ordered about five old (133q, 529q, and 530q) OCBDs from Brooks during the 25% sale that just ended. I've noticed the quality of these shirts are all over the place. Some of the collar points are really short, as in just barely over 3" while others are 3 & 1/8" and one is 3 & 1/4". Also one of the shirt's front button placket was coming apart at the corner where it meets with the collar band. And another issue is the placement of the collar buttons are crooked on three of the shirts. This last problem I can fix myself but the others will require a return/exchange. I'm guessing that the likelihood of a buyer receiving a less than satisfactory item will increase as the stockpile diminishes. I just want to let everyone here know because I'm sure a few of us will try and take advantage of the last remaining stock at discount prices. With that being said I'm issuing a friendly caveat emptor disclaimer.

That's really a shame to hear and I hope you get it all resolved. I'm having a bit of a problem with the NEW Brooks OCBD that I bought. For some reason a few of the button on the front placket keep coming unbuttoned like the button holes are too big for the buttons. And no, it isn't my gut popping the buttons, I have plenty of room!

Maybe it's just BB's lax QC in general?

Last year, for the first time in my experience, I had 2 buttons fall of brand new, just taken out of the wrap BB OCBDs. Both were collar buttons, on their first run, undoing the collars for the necktie, and zing, across the floor they went. I brought them to the store, the manager had their tailor put them back on right away..... but still, very sad.

I have also witnessed myself, and heard from others, of getting shorted on the occasional color length. :|

Last year, one of my new BB OCBDs had two adjacent placket holes for one button. I had my tailor close one of them up, but it still looks crappy. Although no one notices it, the flaw still bugs me.

BB OCBDs are supposed to be a premium product. The issues noted in this thread should not be occurring.

gamma, you hit the nail on the head. It's frustrating to deal with this when you buy a brand new item from a storied brand. That has to be the most bizarre QC issue I've heard of to date.

Hopefully a few washes will tighten the button holes. If not, you might need to have a tailor take a look at it and reinforce the holes.

First run?? That is rather disappointing. Let's hope this is just a momentary lapse in QC and it will pick up again in the near future

A new BB OCBD in pink arrived today. But file this one under "disappointing purchase"

Image

A flaw right next to the front placket, and not as subtle as this photo may make it appear.

BB needs to get its sh*t together.

That's annoying. I've had one of those down by the shirt tails and I let it slide because it would always be tucked out of sight, but this is front and center for everyone to enjoy. How lovely.

Pretty disappointing from Brooks. Slightly off topic, but I ordered something from them early Wednesday morning during the corporate sale and as of today, according to the website, the order is still "processing." I've seen faster shipping from used booksellers on Amazon.

I returned the item to the store for an exchange. Of course, none were in stock. Another should be on its way this week.

Speaking of shipping, the sales associate looked the item up on her computer and noted that there were no more in stock at the factory, but there were various stores across the country that had one and could ship to me directly.

From experience, I know Orvis does this routinely, rather than make a customer wait or put an item on "back order," which is what happened when I originally placed my order. I got the "processing" message from BB longer than expected. I'd like to see BB follow The Orvis shipping model.

More and more, I see BB as just another mall store. Yes, they have some nice offerings that are nicer than your typical mall clothing outlet. But I usually have to order those online. It's been a long time since I made an in-store purchase.

I missed BB's golden era, which others here refer to fondly.

I just called customer service and they told me my order would ship today or tomorrow. We'll see.

Just received an exchange for two of my shirts. Let's just say I'm not impressed...again.

Here's Brooks doing their best Lands End impression:
