I watched "In the Heat of the Night" the other day. Haven't seen it in years, and Virgil Tibbs' high-roll sack suit is a) beautifully tailored and b) gets a workout every bit as strenuous as the famous suit worn by Roger O. Thornhill in "North by Northwest."

Yes, Roger had to crash around a cornfield, but Virgil had to fend off four chain-wielding goobers in a garage. And his shirt collar is present and correct throughout.

Patrick, you are the best! Who – but you – could compare the relative movie star arduousness of two actors, while focussing on collar roll!

Amazing movie and fantastic suit. I still think William Holden in Sabrina has the best Ivy suit though!

You have an amazing eye Patrick, Mr. Poitier looks great all around, and those collars are especially aspirational

As for Mr. Holden, he also looks good, but he's got a bit of a non-natural shoulder problem in that photo

I have to disagree, LC. There's a slight bit of padding, which was common in the mid-50s, but the seam is very natural and the shoulder is pretty unstructured.
