I'd like an engine-turned belt and strap. I'm looking at the BB sterling one, and the Trafalgar rhodium-over-brass plaque buckle. Is the sterling so much nicer that it's worth holding out for at (for me) twice the price?

And am I married to doing each brand's belt with each brand's strap, or can I put a Trafalgar buckle on a BB strap, or (less likely) the BB buckle on the Trafalgar strap? I think I've heard the Trafalgar option doesn't work on a Beltmaster strap, since the strap is too thin (or is it too thick?) for the buckle to hold.

Any advice is much appreciated.

I have one of each. I got a joke buckle engraved with "BROKE" and the sterling silver one with my actual initials. After many years of wearing both the sterling silver has taken on a patina. The plated buckle looks worn. As for straps I have a Trafalgar on both at the moment. As long as the measurement matches up you're fine.

Hopefully I'm not blowing anyone's spot, but here's a cheap gator option from BB for your slide buckle. Only an hour and change left.

Shoot! And on the day eBay quits working on my phone. Oh well.

That's the answer I was looking for. Though I do like the idea of a joke buckle. Maybe that's what the gold-plate one from Trafalgar is for.
