I enjoy reading the SF version...thought we could use one over here. Please post your Thrift Store/Ebay/Garage Sale/Discount finds.

I'll start:

The past couple of months it have been a goldmine for my feet:

About a month ago:

A pair of Alden for Brooks Brothers 986s in excellent shape (8.5 out of 10). My size. Recently resoled. $5.89.

Yesterday:

Crockett & Jones for Polo tobacco suede wingtips. They've been worn (maybe) three times. Almost perfect condition. My size. $7.99.

Not really that shocking, if you ask me, in light of the stuff that Georgia regularly posts on the Trad forum Thrift Exchange thread. I have no idea where he gets that stuff, but I'd sure love to know.

It's been pretty slow for me, but a few months back I found a navy blue 100% cashmere sport coat for $.75. It couldn't have been worn more than a few times because there was no wear whatsoever.

Recently got a couple of outerwear items, a 1950s era Navy issue peacoat and a HSM single breasted raincoat.

I have a pair of the C&J suede wingtips. One of my favorites. Great find.

Seriously, Georgia, what is it going to cost me to get you to divulge your secret shop?

You're an all around bigger size than me. I pose no threat. ;)

It's autumn, and our towns indulge in Fall Festivals.

These festivities usually include: book sales; bake sales; booths of arts 'n' crafts ranging in scope from the mildly interesting to outright gimcrackery; clever scarecrows; historical exhibits manned by grim, determined spinsters and widows; and second-hand clothing.

I am usually more of a donor to the Episcopal outfitters, but this year I scored these Aldens, which look to me like shell (there was a sort of milky yecch around the strap on one of the shoes, which I have read about with shell). I am also guessing they've been recrafted, but you guys tell me.

Whatever they are, they fit and they look good. Shoes and the two bows for $19.

Excellent find, Patrick!

In fact, those Alden 954s are shell. If you want to get rid of them, please let me know...they are my size!!!

^ Mine too.

There was also a funky pair of Aristocrafts, a loafer with two elastic things on either side of the tongue or vamp or whatever it's called. I might grab those today, just for the hell of it.

Patrick, those are not recrafted, but have the original insole insert and soles. Alden designates 'Alden Restoration' on both of those with recrafts. The interiors on those are great. They've been worn very little--$600 shoes!

Greetings,
This is my first post to this fourm, and am happy to be part of this growing community. Today I went into my local Salvation Army store to see what I could find and I hit the mother load.. I found a pair of AE bit loafers in black, in like great new condition. The soles and heels have little to no wear and the vamp just needs a little cleaning and polishing. They were marked $10.00, I almost felt guilty when I purchased them. I can not wait to wear these, I have always wanted a pair of bit loafers. Image
