Visit Detroit sometime. You'll find plenty of "car guys."

My Dad had a 1980 VW Rabbit convertible (later called "cabriolet") when I was in college. Manual transmission, of course. I loved driving that thing. Even in the middle of winter, I'd put the top down and crank up the heater.

The car was eventually passed on to my brother, who drove it until it fell apart.

This isn't his car, but that's what it looked like.

Nice. I learned to drive on a manual convertible Rabbit, which was British racing green as well. My first car was a blue 1980 TR7 convertible, stick shift. (Like the one pictured below). Loved it, but it was a piece of $#@%. Still drive a manual transmition vehicle to this day. Love them, but I'm afraid when the time comes to say goodbye to my trusty old truck, I will have to give in and drive an automatic. Boring.

The boys and I are going to Vegas next month. No gambling... other than with our lives... but we'll be driving Exotic cars on a race track in Sin City!

None of the cars have a top speed lower than 180 MPH and three of these beauties ease into the 200 MPH club. I'll pop for the car rental and the airfare and the three boys will pick up their hotel rooms and food.

Here are a few of the cars the guys have selected:

McLaren 570S: Top Speed 204MPH

Lamborghini Aventador. Top speed 202MPH

Image
Ferrari 488: Top Speed 205+MPH

Here's the track:

Reluctantly, I have decided that – at 75 – my reflexes aren't what they used to be and I won't be a driver this time. Oh, I suppose I could drive 'em, but I'd take too much ribbing from the boys when I kept my top speed to 100 MPH or less.

The two older boys and I undertook a similar trip to Texas six years ago (my youngest was then 16, but needed to be 21 to qualify). These little jaunts are just a couple of days irresponsible behavior. I recommend moments of temporary insanity to every guy!

Maybe a few pictures after the event!
