I found this rather touching and heartbreaking at the same time. I was perusing Peter King's NFL conjecture and he touchingly referenced this obvious tragedy. It reminded me of the way I felt when graduating from undergraduate studies and the trepidation that goes with finding one's way in the world.

I teared up while reading that. It struck a chord on many levels beyond knowing she never knew this was to be her own "last lecture".

Very nicely written and incredibly sad to think she didn't make it to her party at 30. Truly a tragedy.

As a parent who's sending his youngest off to Yale this Fall, this is beyond poignant. I feel some combination of ineffable sadness for a promising life cut short and a desire to reach for my boy and not let him get away from me. In the end, I can't change what the fates had in store for her... or have in store for him. May an afterlife exist for all those of whom it is said, "The good die young."
