I just returned from spending 8 fabulous days in Rhode Island and Connecticut with my wife. We hit all the spots mentioned in my post above, plus a few more. Thought I'd share some travel photos, starting with Newport:
Freebody Park, where "Jazz on a Summer's Day" was filmed. Today it has a few softball fields, a football field, and a children's playground. The stone wall and houses behind it made identification easy:
The International Tennis Museum, where an original 1920s Lacoste tennis blazer is on display:

We took a sunset cruise on a schooner, from which we viewed Hammersmith Farm, former summer home of the Auchincloss family:
